All Shiny Pokemon questions answered!

* What is a shiny pokemon?

A differently-colored pokemon. When it appears on screen, stars briefly sparkle and shine around it.

*What makes shinies special?

They are very rare and have different coloring, but other than that, nothing. A shiny may be better or worse in terms of its quality (IVs/stats) compared to any other non-shiny of the same species.

* What are the odds of getting a shiny?

There is only a 1/8192 chance of encountering one. It doesn't matter if you try repeatedly resetting for one (mostly done for trying to get shiny starters/legendaries), or breeding for one, or walking around for one, or whatever. From R/S/E on, the odds are 1/8192 for each and every encounter.

* If I evolve my shiny will it stay shiny?

Yes. Once shiny, always shiny.

* What's new in D/P regarding shiny pokemon?

We can use the poke radar to help us identify when a shiny pokemon is nearby under certain conditions. It is also thought that having a higher radar chain increases our ability to be able to identify when a shiny is in the area. See the Poke Radar section for more info.

*If you have a shiny parent, will you get a shiny baby?

The odds are 1/8192, even if both parents are shiny. I know. I've tried with both my male/female Altaria and male/female Linoone.

* Will I always recognize a shiny pokemon?

Probably not. It depends in large part on the species. Some species are very easy to tell the difference between shiny and non-shiny, while in others the differences are really hard to see. In all cases, when a shiny pokemon first appears onscreen a circle of white stars around the sprite will also be displayed. If you're looking at the screen it should be kind of hard to miss that part---now that you know what to look for. When a non-shiny appears there are no stars. The stars look similar in size and color as the three that show when you catch a wild pokemon.

* How can I verify my pokemon is shiny?

Go to the summary page of that pokemon. If it is shiny, a red star will be in the upper right corner of the pokemon's image, sort of below the gender icon.

If you need any more help make a new topic about it
